Anthony Albanese has stood by Australian breaking Olympian Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn in light of the feedback she received for her performance on the global stage at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In case you missed it, Professor and B-Girl Raygun has become a hot topic online, sparking discussions, memes, and criticism following her showing at the breaking competition at this year’s Olympics.
During her routine, the B-Girl showcased a range of moves, freezes, and my personal highlight, “the kangaroo” move. Despite her creative approach, spectators worldwide were not entirely impressed, with many critiquing the Macquarie Uni professor for her performance.

Post-performance, Raygun became a target for online jokes, not only for her breaking style but also for her attire, which she addressed after the Olympic event.

In response to the wave of memes and jokes, Anthony Albanese publicly commented on Raygun’s performance, expressing support for her talents on an international level.
“Good on her and a big shout-out to her. That is in the Australian tradition of people having a go. She’s had a go representing our country and that’s a good thing,” Albo stated on Sunday, as reported by news.com.au.
“The Olympics is about people participating in sport.
“That’s a good thing and Raygun had a crack.
“Whether (athletes have) won gold medals or just done their best, that is all we ask for. It’s the participating that is really important.”
Rachael Gunn responds to the critics
Following the Paris 2024 Women’s Breaking event, the Australian B-Girl explained to the media that “all [her] moves are original”.
“I was always the underdog and wanted to make my mark in a different way,” Rachael expressed.

Moreover, she addressed critics who targeted her outfit on Instagram.
“Looking forward to the same level of scrutiny on what the bboys wear tomorrow,” Raygun posted on a yellow and green Instagram Story.
Even though the memes from Raygun’s performance have been downright entertaining, I can’t help but feel sympathy for the B-Girl.
Currently, it seems that Paris 2024 is the only Olympic Games featuring Breaking, with Los Angeles 2028 not including the event in its lineup.
But if they ever reconsider, can we nominate Justice Crew???
