Guzman Y Gomez, the renowned food-in-a-tube expert, is relentlessly pursuing market dominance. However, its path to conquering Sydney might encounter a formidable obstacle.
The suburb of Mosman, located on the Lower North Shore of Sydney, has raised concerns over a proposal to establish a 24-hour GYG outlet.
Remember the days when people would protest against live music venues extending their hours? It seems that preventing access to a 4am burrito is the latest controversy.
As reported by news.com.au, a development application was submitted to the Mosman Council earlier this month.
If the proposal receives approval, the outlet will be situated on Military Road, nestled between Lululemon and a pharmacy—perhaps the most quintessential old-money establishments imaginable.
“As a Mosman resident, I firmly oppose 24-hour trading of any kind in Mosman village—6am to 10pm is reasonable, but 24-hour trading is not suitable for our community,” expressed one resident in a written submission to the council.
“60% of reviews on TripAdvisor rate this company as 2-star or less out of 5. There must be a reason,” remarked another individual.
I love how ambiguous “there must be a reason” sounds. It’s reminiscent of the start of a Scooby-Doo episode.
Yet, our favorite was undoubtedly the following Facebook comment, which gained traction on Twitter.
Not everyone was critical, as one online commenter enthusiastically stated, “who doesn’t want 24-hour burritos?”, which is indeed the right sentiment.
Guzman Y Gomez finds itself on the PEDESTRIAN.TV naughty list for removing the shredded mushroom filling from their menu.
According to NCA Newswire, a spokesperson for the fast-food chain explained that it was removed “due to lack of sales”.
“Regrettably, our shredded mushroom filling wasn’t selling sufficiently to remain on our menu at this time,” the GYG spokesperson elaborated.
Boooo.
