Opinion: Hot Cross Buns Have Already Hit Shelves & You Know What? GOOD, I LOVE 'EM

The year 2024 is almost here, bringing with it a multitude of topics to stir up outrage. However, the presence of hot cross buns in December and January is not one of those issues. In truth, anyone who insists that HCBs are merely a seasonal delight needs to awaken to the delicious reality of enjoying them year-round.

At PEDESTRIAN.TV, we've long advocated for the belief that HCBs should be savored throughout the year.

Regrettably, we exist within a media environment that rarely gives such perspectives the attention they deserve.

Consider, for example, the Daily Mail’s headline on Boxing Day 2023:

“Outrage after hot cross buns go on sale at Woolworths and Coles THREE MONTHS before Easter”.

And what about news.com.au?

“Coles, Woolies announce bizarre decision”, reads the headline on Google’s search results page.

In the festive spirit, we should also reflect on our past mistakes.

PEDESTRIAN.TV hasn’t always been accepting of HCBs in all their variations.

In February this year, we published an article titled:

“Coles Is Selling Special Burger Sauce Hot Cross Buns If You Don’t Respect Yourself As A Person.”

At the time, it seemed quite humorous.

But with the benefit of hindsight, and in light of supporting the year-round enjoyment of hot cross buns, we recognize it was overly critical.

We were also excessively harsh to those who microwaved their HCBs in our article featuring interviews with them.

For that, we also apologize.

Our passion and desire for everyone to relish our favorite snack in its best form (toasted) got the better of us.

In conclusion, human beings are always growing and changing.

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you were once critical of out-of-season HCB availability.

Forgiveness is the first step toward healing.

And the festive season is all about forgiveness (although it should really be a year-round practice too).
