As reported by Chattr, Barry was previously married to Audrey Myrden. Sadly, in 2011, Audrey passed away after a malignant brain tumor diagnosis in 2009.

A source close to The Golden Bachelor commented that Barry’s participation in the show isn’t surprising, noting that his three children – Charlie, Jack, and Declan – didn’t approve of the women he dated.

“Bear often says his sons think he’s dating women who are too young and attractive for him,” the source revealed to Daily Mail Australia.

“We always joked that he should be on a show like MAFS, so seeing him take the Bachelor role isn’t a shock.”

What is The Golden Bachelor about?

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, let me enlighten you. The Golden Bachelor is a spin-off of the Bachelor franchise. Instead of featuring young contestants, it follows singles in their golden years — silver foxes and glamorous seniors — as they search for love among numerous suitors in their later years.

The concept was first tested in the United States with 72-year-old GILF Gerry Turner, a retired widower. The series was a smash hit, both in viewership and results. It concluded with Gerry marrying 71-year-old contestant Theresa Nist in a live televised wedding special.

Regrettably, the charming couple parted ways three months later, but it was a memorable TV event nonetheless!!!!

The announcement of a Golden Bachelor series in Australia is thrilling news. As an entertainment reporter covering reality dating shows for years, I’ve noticed a recurring desire from the public for more authentic love stories. One way to achieve this is by featuring older contestants who are genuinely ready to settle down, rather than those seeking their 15 minutes of fame.

In Australia, networks have generally been hesitant to feature older individuals on dating shows. An exception was Channel Nine’s My Mum, Your Dad, where kids helped their parents find love.

When does The Golden Bachelor Australia start?

While there’s no specific date yet, we do know that The Golden Bachelor Australia is set to premiere in 2025.

Who is hosting The Golden Bachelor Australia?

Regrettably, The Bachelor favorite Osher Günsberg won’t be hosting this time. Instead, Channel Nine has enlisted Farmer Wants A Wife host Samantha Armytage for this romantic journey!
