Harry Potter star, Emma Watson, has been hit with a $2,146 (£1,044) fine and a six-month driving ban for speeding in the UK.
The 35-year-old — who has stepped away from acting recently to study at Oxford — was caught speeding in Banbury, England, in July 2024. She was reportedly driving her blue Audi at 61 km/h (38 mph) in a 48 km/h (30 mph) zone. Ooft.

Similar to the demerit point system in Australia, the UK courts can impose fines and add “endorsements” to your driving record. These points can remain on your record for four to 11 years. If British drivers accumulate 12 or more points within three years, they can face disqualification from driving.
According to BBC News, Watson already had nine (!) points on her license before this recent incident.
Although the actress and student did not attend High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court herself this week, lawyer Mark Haslam confirmed his client was “in a position to pay the fine”. Indeed.
In an odd twist of fate, another Harry Potter actress also had her license suspended for six months and was fined for speeding in the same court... on the exact same day.
Zoe Wanamaker, who portrayed Quidditch referee and Hogwarts coach Madam Hooch in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was caught speeding in August 2024.

According to the BBC, the 76-year-old was driving at 74 km/h (46 mph) in a 65 km/h (40 mph) zone on the M4 in Newbury, Berkshire. Wanamaker was also fined $2,146 (£1,044). Her lawyer mentioned that the actress was not seeking “special treatment” and accepted the fine.
Watson is not expected to make any guest appearances in the new HBO TV adaptation of the beloved wizard books. Her iconic character, Hermione Granger, will be portrayed by Arabella Stanton.
In the meantime, Watson will continue her creative writing studies at Oxford — and rely on public transport throughout 2025.
It seems it really is ten points to Gryffindor after all.
