I’m a firm believer in the significance of first impressions.
Your first date, the inaugural day at university, and most importantly in my opinion — your first job interview with a company.
With countless applicants and job seekers out there, repeat after me — first impressions are EVERYTHING. You need to make a mark to rise above the noise.
To assist you in your job search, we had a conversation with Jackie, a recruiter in the tech sector. She shared her best advice on acing that job interview and finally securing your dream position.
The golden rule: presentation and hygiene
Jackie emphasizes that dressing appropriately for your prospective company is often overlooked.
“It plays a crucial role in your first and last impression. Verify if the company has a formal dress code or if it’s more casual, and dress accordingly.”
Jackie also stressed the importance of maintaining good hygiene during a job interview. It might seem obvious, but you would be surprised.
“Basic hygiene is absolutely essential. Ensure you present yourself just as you’d want an interviewer to present themselves to you.”
We know confidence is key, but humour is too
We’ve all heard it before — confidence is a major component of a successful interview.
“It’s not about thinking you know everything about the position or being boastful about your experience,” says Jackie.
“It’s about having the self-assurance that you’re capable and possess the right skills for the job because you’ve put in the effort.”
