In a somber development for Team USA's star gymnast, Jordan Chiles, the renowned athlete will not have her Paris 2024 Olympic Games bronze reinstated.

In recent days, USA's Olympic gymnastics team faced uncertainty regarding Chiles' bronze medal, which she earned in the Women's Floor Exercise final.

This situation arose because the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) invalidated Chiles' final score for the event.

Consequently, the American gymnast was demoted to fifth place instead of third, allowing Romania's Ana Bărbosu to claim the bronze medal.

Nevertheless, there remains a glimmer of hope for Chiles' medal, as USA Gymnastics tried to contest the decision by submitting "video evidence" that might overturn the ruling.

Regrettably, USA Gymnastics announced that the appeal for the gymnast was rejected by CAS.

"USA Gymnastics was informed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday that their rules do not permit an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when compelling new evidence is presented," the organization stated in a statement on Instagram.

"We are profoundly disappointed by this notification and will continue to explore every possible avenue and appeal process, including to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, to ensure the scoring, placement, and medal award for Jordan," the statement continued.

Fans urge USA Gymnastics to unveil the "video evidence"

Following the statement, supporters of the US Gymnastics team have called on the organization to release the footage they submitted in the appeal for Chiles' bronze medal.

"Don't hesitate, release the tape publicly! Stir up more outrage," one fan commented.

"We won't let them outdo us. Litigation is our sport too," another remarked.

"DON'T STOP UNTIL JORDAN GETS JUSTICE!! Keep your medal, Jordan, it rightfully belongs to you!!" wrote another supporter.

Why did Jordan Chiles lose her bronze medal?

Chiles' bronze medal in the Women's Floor Exercise Final was revoked after a CAS ruling declared her final score invalid.

During the Paris 2024 event, Team USA coach Cécile Canqueteau-Landi submitted an appeal to the judging panel, requesting a 0.1 addition to Chiles' original score.

The appeal was initially successful, propelling the US Olympian from fifth to third place, which ultimately displaced Bărbosu from the podium.

On Saturday, CAS ruled that Landi's appeal should not have been approved, arguing that the coach contested the score just seconds beyond the one-minute window allowed for submissions.

In light of the ruling, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) stated that the original scores — where Chiles was fifth and Bărbosu was third — were reinstated.

Shortly thereafter, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that Chiles would have to return her bronze, which would then be awarded to the Romanian athlete.

"The IOC will reallocate the bronze medal to Ana Barbosu (Romania). We are coordinating with the NOC of Romania regarding the reallocation ceremony and with USOPC for the return of the bronze medal," the IOC announced.

Chiles has yet to issue a statement about this recent development. However, after the CAS ruling, she shared on social media that she would be stepping away from the internet for her mental well-being.

"I am taking this time and removing myself from social media for my mental health, thank you," Chiles expressed.

It would be heartwarming if Bărbosu opted for a Mean Girls gesture and decided to share the medal with Chiles.
