Sabrina Carpenter has once again showcased her flair for creating buzz with her new album Short N’ Sweet, this time stirring up an old feud between Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott.
The petite pop sensation finds herself in what the Swifties might describe as a chart showdown with Scott, who released his latest album, Days Before Rodeo, on the exact same day Short N’ Sweet debuted. This is the musical equivalent of Barbenheimer, and it's quite clear who the doll-faced figure is in this scenario.
As expected, the two artists are now competing in a classic race up the Billboard charts, reminiscent of a similar battle for the top spot between Scott and Minaj back in 2018.
During that period, Minaj’s album Queen was unable to claim its Billboard crown, as Scott utilized the Swift playbook by re-releasing bundles of his album Astroworld to boost his sales figures.
This resulted in an episode of Minaj’s Apple Music show, Queen Radio, where the rapper dubbed Scott an “Auto-tune man” and disputed claims that he had sold “half a million albums, because he fucking didn’t”.
That was a relatively mild reaction from Minaj, especially considering the epic Megan Thee Stallion feud that had me second-guessing my shoe size throughout January.
Now, Carpenter has seemingly picked a side in the long-standing conflict (risking a metaphorical salmonella), by sharing a post on X that alludes to the Minaj and Scott saga.
“this one’s for nicki”, the “Espresso” singer posted on Friday, nearly confirming her status as a true barb.
It might have been a wise decision to win Minaj’s favor (just ask Cardi B), and the Queen herself acknowledged Carpenter’s tweet during an Instagram Live on the same day. “Shout out to Sabrina Carpenter,” Minaj declared, “shout out to all the Sabrina Carpenter fans”.
Minaj and Scott aren’t the only artists caught in the Short N’ Sweet frenzy, as fans quickly speculated upon the album’s release that several tracks are about her ex Shawn Mendes, and his ex Camilla Cabello.
Let’s start a petition for all three to work it out on the remix now.
