The ARIA Awards season is here in full swing, unveiling the comprehensive list of Australian musicians competing for the iconic, sharply-designed trophy.

The 2024 ARIA Awards nominees were announced during a YouTube livestream on Thursday morning, with Royel Otis leading the nominations with an impressive eight mentions.

The Sydney duo, who became unavoidable this year with their viral rendition of “Murder on The Dance Floor,” secured nominations in key categories such as Album of the Year and Best Rock Album for their debut project PRATTS & PAIN, as well as Best Group.

Remarkably, their cover (the one that collectively captivated us) was also nominated for Song Of The Year, marking the first time a Like A Version cover has been in the running for an ARIA Award.

Royel Otis faces competition in the Album of The Year category from fellow nominees Amy Shark for Sunday Sadness, the electrifying Troye Sivan for Something To Give Each Other, Angie McMahon for Light, Dark, Light Again, and the iconic Kylie Minogue for Tension.

Riding the wave of the sweet “Padam” buzz, Ms. Minogue was among this year's most-nominated artists, receiving five nods including Best Pop Release and Best Solo Artist.

The Best Solo Artist category also features mentions for Sivan, Tones And I, Tkay Maidza, and Dom Dolla, while the Best Group category includes Royel, Hiatus Kaiyote, and RÜFÜS DU SOL among others.

Dom Dolla also had a stellar run, grabbing six nominations across categories such as Best Dance / Electronic Release for “Saving Up” — where he stands alongside Fisher and Confidence Man — and Song of The Year.

This category is notably competitive, with Sivan’s “Got Me Started” facing off against “Murder On The Dance Floor,” “Tension,” and G Flip’s “The Worst Person Alive,” among others.

Beyond the major categories, specific genres received recognition with Jessica Mauboy, ONEFOUR, and Casey Barnes mentioned in the Best Pop, Best Hip Hop/Rap, and Best Country categories, respectively.

Meanwhile, Angus & Julia Stone received a nod for Best Adult Contemporary Album, while Dune Rats and Teenage Jones will compete for Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album.

On the international scene, brat summer continues its dominance in the southern hemisphere with Charli XCX named alongside ARIA-ana Grande (see what I did there?), Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Olivia Rodrigo for Most Popular International Artist. The pop stars remain triumphant.

This impressive and star-studded list of nominees highlights the vibrant state of Australian music in 2024. However, with only a limited number of awards to be given, I suggest a Mean Girls moment where the trophy is shared among everyone.

This year’s ARIA Awards ceremony will take place at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on November 20, and will be broadcast the same day on Stan. Check out the complete list of nominees in major categories below.
