Australian Internet Is Now Passionately Debating What Our Nation’s ‘Least Shit Common Beer’ Is

In what could be one of our favorite Reddit threads to emerge recently, Australians are currently debating what they consider to be the nation's "least bad common beer." This is truly democracy manifest.

The r/Australia subreddit is essentially the treasure trove of Australian culture, and I say that in the best way possible: You never quite know what you'll discover, and when you find something worthwhile, the value is astonishing.

This weekend, the online community has brought us something quite captivating. A user named REINSTEIN11497 posed the question, “what’s the least bad common beer?”

They paired it with an image where, as many have pointed out, he is holding a can of beer while watching a TV set that is, quite frankly, WAY too distant from him.

Interestingly, there's even a subreddit called r/TVTooFar dedicated to that phenomenon.

IT’S SO FAR AWAY.

Alright, back to the main topic.

We’re not discussing craft breweries or any newcomers from the past five years run by a couple of guys with mustaches and sleeve tattoos.

We’re referring to the beers your uncle enjoys on Christmas Day.

And yes, we’re including beers not brewed in Australia, as long as they are widely available here.

“My grandfather insists that Great Northern is an excellent beer,” read one of the most up-voted comments. “He also has middle-stage Alzheimer’s so…”. Yikes, point noted?

“Coopers green,” another person chimed in, receiving nearly 1,000 up-votes at the time of writing.

Personally, I must agree. Green Coopers cans are a remarkably safe choice.

“Emu Export. Beer classic,” wrote another user, likely from Western Australia.

Carlton Draught, Mountain Goat, Asahi, and VB also appeared among the top-voted comments.

We also wanted to take a brief moment to acknowledge this comment from perhaps the most quintessentially “Queensland” man ever.

“You’ve got it right there in ya hand champion, a cold Milton Mango will soothe the soul and quench the thirst of even the driest Aussie battlers. Do not heed the naysayers and southern ponces, XXXX is the king of this golden land of plenty.”

Goodness gracious, it’s like you asked ChatGPT to produce the most Far North sentence imaginable.

Anyway, this list seems somewhat redundant. Everyone knows you just buy the cheapest stuff available.

Let’s not pretend any of us have refined taste when it comes to picking beer.
