The Tourism and Transport Forum Australia has unveiled its survey on the most sought-after holiday spots, and the results hold some unexpected revelations.
The organization representing the tourism industry recently reached out to discover where Australians are planning to venture this summer.
Did we delve into the entire survey? Not quite. Instead, we opted for the two-page infographic filled with captivating visuals.
Here’s the summary.
The survey revealed that 14% of Australians are considering international travel, while 62% plan to explore destinations within the country.
For overseas trips, 17% of respondents are heading to New Zealand, making it the top choice.
Europe followed closely with 16%, Japan secured third place at 10%, Thailand came in fourth with 6%, and Singapore ranked fifth with 5.5%.
But here's where things get intriguing.
You might expect Indonesia to be in the top five, given Bali's popularity. At least, that's what my Instagram and TikTok suggest.
However, Indonesia was the chosen destination for just 4% of those surveyed.
Malaysia edged ahead of Indonesia, while the US, Canada, and China followed behind.
Regarding domestic travel, it was no surprise that the Gold Coast emerged as the most favored location. Queensland topped the list as the most popular state, and Sydney led the cities category.
Financial constraints have also influenced travel plans, with 55% of respondents indicating that the cost of living had impacted their summer getaways.
In total, 2000 people participated in the survey conducted between December 5-11, 2023.
